Explore Apprenticeship Scheme in India: A Difference between NAPS and NATS

In India, the apprenticeship scheme is a training programme where trainees receive instruction from an industrial skills expert in a skill or trade. Many other countries, like Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and more, are well known for their training. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), India too has this program. It is a good example of how a country focused on its goals can, even with less publicity, be very good at grooming young minds. Many people wonder what the objectives of apprenticeship training in HRM are. A training scheme, such as the NAPS (National Apprenticeship Promotional Scheme) or NATS (National Apprentice Training Scheme), especially one instituted for the growth of individuals, individual firms, and the nation, must have some goals it must fulfil from the perspective of the personnel who apply for it.

The key purposes of any apprenticeship training in HRM are to create all-round progress in applicants in three main areas, improving competence over time:

Knowledge: To boost the required knowledge to carry out the profession in a credible manner and to meet the basic conditions needed for the job.

Skills: To impart the required skills, bring out the job or occupation, and meet the main performance indicators at work.

Behaviour: Adjust the temperament and elevate the candidate's emotional intelligence, allowing them to work more accurately in a team or fulfil their specific job role with others.

What are the advantages of apprenticeship training?

We stated in the above section how apprenticeship training will help the learner. Let us disclose some benefits of it for businesses. It helps boost the confidence of applicants and enhance their skill levels. If we view it from a company perspective,

  • It will build more talented teams and transfer talent to those newly placed in teams.
  • Upskilling, ongoing learning, and expansion will be the norm at work.
  • Candidates will work to grow together and become more trained and productive to improve a company's reputation and finances.

What is the difference between NAPS and NATS?

The NAPS is published by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). This helps proactively create and increase the skilled workforce in India. This programme comprises basic, on-the-job training at the company and can range from 6 months to 3 years, depending on the scheme they take up. The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme was published with the vision of delivering apprenticeship training to over 50 lakh youngsters, improving apprentices’ attention in the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) segment to increase productivity.

The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), published by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), is a one-year programme providing technically qualified youth with the practical skills needed in their field of work. The key purpose of NATS is to promote fresh graduates and diploma holders in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management, and catering technology and (10+2) level vocational course passouts to get ‘job’ training in industries and establishments and make them more employable.

Why should companies undertake the NAPS/NATS programmes?

Companies registered under the Apprentices Act, of 1961 are exempted from contributing to the Employees State Insurance (ESI) and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for the apprentices they employ. Moreover, the government of India offers financial support to companies that are undertaking the NAPS/NATS program. One of the most important advantages is its end-to-end service for firms via third-party administrators (TPA), as the loyalty factor among apprentices is higher, resulting in reduced attrition.

What are the Advantages of using the NAPS/NATS Scheme?

Companies are exempt from EPF and ESI contributions.

  • On-the-job training makes a proactive workforce, helping employers in the long run as the learners help assets to the company.
  • reduces costs in the staffing process since the learners are up-skilled in a short period and begin contributing productively.
  • After completion of training, based on the performance of the apprentices, the firm is allowed the flexibility to hire or let go of the candidates.
  • CSR funds can be used to engage employees in skill training under the Apprentices Act in India.
  • Further requirements were offered about the submission of returns, other information, and the apprentice contact through the apprenticeship portal for time-bound approval.
  • The main goal of the NAPS plan was to provide apprenticeships and increase employment possibilities for adolescents, aiding in developing brand recognition.

Why should companies be looking at apprenticeships?

Tailored training provided, as per business need: The content of the scheme is set by the employer, who decides which skills their ideal candidate requires. Suppose a new graduate lacks specialised talents, and you have a free position to fill.

Apprenticeship costs are taken care of. Under the NAPS scheme, the government provides companies with financial help. Its basic training amount of up to Rs 7500 per apprentice for a greatest of 500 hours is returned by the Government of India. Conversely, under the NATS system, technical field apprentices are expected to make approximately Rs. 8000 per month, while graduates would receive Rs. 9000 during the training phase. This may vary depending on the business.

Soft skills need to be managed. Trainees are often technically sound but may lack the talents to fulfil their company requirements. Talents like negotiation, time management, business communication, commercial awareness, and more are vital to keeping up with a qualified team. Apprentices grow these skills as they work and understand simultaneously in a company environment.

As a licensed third-party aggregator (TPA) for both NATS and NAPS, Vision India Services facilitates companies. It helps in the submission of reimbursement claims, apprenticeship contracts, and several other formalities to attach to the apprenticeship program. Vision India has always promoted firms to get eminently involved in raising employment in India. In the journey of contributing towards government schemes, our professionals have helped and have been provided with a potential team to suit the exact needs of their company. This agency also gives access to a large pool of qualified personnel for the future workforce, along with consistent service through each step of the National Apprenticeship Programme Scheme.
